Ogilvy

"Pushpin Portrait"

While working at Ogilvy & Mather Chicago, my partner and I tapped into the agency’s long-standing culture of pinning up work—ideas, sketches, and campaigns in progress—as a way to share and build on creativity.

Inspired by this tradition, we spearheaded a massive art installation to honor David Ogilvy. The concept? A paint-by-numbers-style portrait of the founder, constructed entirely from red, yellow, blue, black, and white pushpins.

The entire agency pitched in—pin by pin—turning collaboration into something permanent. Today, the piece stands as a lasting fixture in the office, celebrating both craft and culture.

“Ogilvy Chicago loves pushpins, often
using it to display new work, but art director Brian Thibodeau and copywriter Bill Wanek recreated the image of their founder in red, yellow, blue, black and white push pins.”
